Nootka Sound on Vancouver Island

West Coast of Vancouver Island

There there is a long list of magical aspects to fishing on Vancouver Island, few are more renowned than exploring the waters of Nootka Sound. Nootka is situated on the west coast of Vancouver Island, just shy of 300 km from the capital city of Victoria. Nootka’s waters present anglers with a long list of angling opportunities, with the annual migrations of Chinook and Coho salmon being highly sought-after.

Nootka’s positioning puts them in close proximity to a multitude of prolific migratory highways for Chinook and Coho salmon. These travelling lanes are frequented by Columbia River migratory Chinooks, with the addition of these fish being found on inside waters as the season progresses. Though Nootka is known for its salmon fishing opportunities, do not discount the bottom fishing, prawning, crabbing and oyster harvesting opportunities that Nootka offers.
