Squamish

WHERE THE MOUNTAINS MEET THE OCEAN

Year-round fishing opportunities makes Squamish a must-visit destination.

Anglers are practical people, we accept that our chosen sport has seasons; times of the year that, thanks to things like snow and ice, we might not get to pursue our passion.

Those who visit Squamish, however, can free themselves from such constraint — this region (as with much of coastal B.C.) is uniquely blessed by temperate weather and natural cycles that offer anglers countless fishing opportunities all through the year.

There are the mighty ocean bruisers — Pacific salmon. Anglers seeking contact with these great beasts can time their visits to coincide with numerous runs in both fresh and saltwater, depending on species. A favourite target species on the Squamish is the bountiful run of Pink salmon that are readily caught on swung flies. There is also steelhead, the enigmatic trout able to make the transition from salt to freshwater and back again. Local rivers also offer sanctuary to cutthroat, bull and rainbow trout and there are unique ways to access often pristine locations, including by helicopter.

Lastly, one has to mention Squamish’s reputation as a sport-adventure mecca. Skiers and mountain bikers, in particular, are drawn to the region’s world-famous peaks, but there are opportunities here to outlast the length of any trip.
